There’s an all-natural way to get radiant skin by using your body’s healing properties. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) or AKA “Vampire Facial” is a life-changing treatment that uses your blood to reverse the signs of aging. Aesthetics are commonly associated with fillers and Botox injections, and while these both have impressive results and benefits, there are other aesthetic procedures that are one hundred percent natural.
PRF is derived from separating the platelet rich fibrin from the rest of the blood and injecting it into various places throughout the face. Platelets are tiny fragments of cells that are rich in multiple growth factors that initiate wound healing.
PRF is sometimes referred to as ‘liquid gold’ because of its powerful regeneration abilities. The ‘liquid gold’ contains platelets, nutrients, proteins and vitamins. Platelets are rich in growth factors and fibrin. Growth factors stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which slows the aging process of bone, muscle and fat, leading to increased volume, less sagging skin and a more youthful appearance. When injected into the skin, platelet rich plasma releases growth factors, creating increased tissue healing and rejuvenation. This procedure is unique because your own natural tissue is used to rejuvenate your appearance without foreign substances or surgical intervention, eliminating the risk of immune rejection or complications.
PRF or PRP?
Platelet Rich Fibrin, or PRF, is a newer take on PRP. It is a similar treatment, except for how the blood is prepared (slower speed and no anticoagulants). This preparation results in more intact platelets, and the fibrin matrix is maintained without the anticoagulant. The fibrin matrix acts like a web that holds on to the platelets. The platelets are released more slowly, over 7-10 days into the area where the PRF is injected. This slower release of growth factors initiates a healing cascade that takes place over the next couple of months. One of the benefits of PRF versus PRP treatments is less bruising as no anticoagulant is used. Our medical spa clinic has chosen PRF as its preferred treatment option.
The difference between PRP and PRF is that PRF does not contain any additives. PRP can be recommended for fast delivery of growth factors whereas PRF is better suited for long term
release. For instance, PRF growth factors are released over the next 8 -10 days after injections whereas PRP is instant and just once. Also PRF contains 10x more platelets, growth factors and nutrients in comparison to PRP.
How It’s Done
When you come in for your PRF treatment, Dr.Noshad will explain the procedure and will answerany questions you may have. Next, she’ll draw some of your blood and places it into vials. The vials will be placed in a centrifuge for a few minutes. Instead of spinning them at a high speed as is done with PRP, she uses a low G-force to isolate the white blood cells from the red blood cells.
This method keeps a higher level of anti-aging blood cells intact to give you tighter skin. Next, Dr. Noshad will take the vials out of the centrifuge and prepares them for your treatment. The PRF is injected into your problem areas like under eye hollows, forehead wrinkles, and acne scars for example. Your PRF can even be used with a microneedling treatment by replacing the
growth factor serum.
