Lip Fillers

Lip fillers are gaining popularity worldwide, and it’s not hard to see why.

The injections have little downtime, cause minimal pain, aren’t invasive, and the results are immediate. Who wouldn’t want fuller, more luscious lips?

There are, however, some things you should know before jumping into getting your lips done.

Pick a Professional

Do your research. An experienced injector will often have years of experience under their belt. They may also instruct and teach others how to perform the injections. You don’t want someone who has simply done a few lip injections. As there are many nuances to injecting lips and the face in general, it pays to go to an expert with extensive training and experience in facial anatomy and injection techniques.

They Aren’t Permanent

Lip fillers generally can last anywhere from 5 to 8 months, but this can vary from person to person, as each body metabolizes fillers differently. Lip fillers tend to wear off sooner than in other areas of the face as the lips are constantly moving, resulting in faster product breakdown. For this reason, lip filler may need to have a touch-up every six months as needed.

You Can Go in Stages

If you’re looking for a subtle and gradual change in your lip size, you can spread out your injections over a period of time. You don’t have to get a significant volume increase in just one sitting – Your doctor will adjust the amount of filler injected to suit your unique aesthetic goals.

It Won’t Interrupt Your Life

Most facial filler procedures should take approximately 30 minutes. Although minor bruising and swelling can occur, most people can go about their daily lives immediately after the injection with little-to-no downtime.

Give Them Time to “Settle”

When you first get your lips injected, they’ll likely be firm and slightly swollen. Give them a day or two to settle down. Ice packs can frequently help in the first 24 hours after the injection to significantly bring the swelling down.

It’s Indistinguishable

No one will be able to tell by feeling your lips that you’ve had injections. Most people who’ve undergone lip injections are able to perform normal everyday functions, such as eating and kissing, with few noticeable differences. The lips should also feel as soft as your natural tissues once the swelling has settled.

Prepare for Events Beforehand

Many people like to get their lips done for big events, such as graduations, weddings, or birthdays. If this is the case for you, be sure to get the injections done several weeks beforehand. This will give your lips time to recover from the injections, settle down, and look natural prior to the event. The last thing you want to do is show up with swollen lips.

You Can Achieve Different Looks

Injections can be performed within different areas of your lip to enhance your best features and to create a lip shape that is unique to you. Consider bringing in pictures of lip sizes and shapes that you find attractive. This will help guide your injector towards your target cosmetic goals.
